New York

CCW Class — New York

A CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) class is a state-mandated firearm safety training course required for anyone in New York who wants to obtain or renew a concealed carry license to legally carry a pistol or revolver for personal protection. Under New York's Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA), effective since September 1, 2022, all first-time applicants statewide must complete the 16-hour classroom instruction plus 2 hours of live-fire training, while residents of New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties must also complete this training to renew an existing license. The course covers essential topics like firearm safety fundamentals, pistol nomenclature, safe storage, drawing from concealment, malfunction clearing, situational awareness, and legal responsibilities of armed self-defense. Whether you're a first-time gun owner, a current pistol permit holder needing to renew under the new law, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of concealed carry responsibilities, this class is designed for all skill levels and provides the certified proof of training needed to submit your application to the licensing officer in your county.
